A Michigan school district is defending its gun ban in court.
Open carry advocates sued the Clio Area School District back in March.
That's after a dad with a concealed pistol license was asked to leave his daughter's elementary school for openly carrying a gun.
Attorney Timothy Mullins represents Clio schools, which responded to the suit this week.
He says this is an issue the state Legislature needs to clarify.
"I see a guy walking up to my school building and I don't know who he is or what his intentions are and I don't know whether he's got a permit or not to have that gun, I don't think I have any choice but to declare a lockdown,” says Mullins.
Ann Arbor Public Schools is considering a similar gun ban.
