The Michigan State Police is among several law enforcement agencies on heightened alert for possible terrorism this holiday weekend.
Concerns have been raised by recent terrorist attacks in other parts of the world.
“We take the threat seriously,” says Lt. Kyle Bowman, the MSP post commander in Jackson, “But we are working together in a way, on a day to day basis, that puts us in a position where we are better prepared to detect and deter those types of potential threats.”
Bowman says there are no specific threats against Michigan at this time.
Law enforcement agencies are asking Michiganders to help them during the July 4th holiday weekend.
“We want people to relax and enjoy it,” says Bowman, “but we also want people to pay attention and let us know if they see something suspicious.”
Indicators of suspicious activity include:
? Unattended objects or an object that appears out of place, especially in crowded or public areas.
? Individuals exhibiting strange or abnormal behavior.
? Someone entering or exiting blocked or unauthorized areas.
? Individuals who quickly leave when seen or approached.
? A strong odor coming from a building or vehicle.
? Someone tampering or interfering with surveillance cameras.
? A vehicle that seems out of place.
? Someone taking photos, videos or drawings of high-profile or highly populated buildings or structures.
? Exposed wiring or other abnormalities.
