Tuesday, state lawmakers will consider a package of bills  aimed at reducing Michigan’s growing problems with prescription painkillers.

Opioids, like hydrocodone and oxycodone, are commonly prescribed for pain management.

But Michigan, like other states, has seen an increasing problem with opioid addiction and fatal overdoses.

The state of Michigan has made several efforts to reduce the problem.

This week, the state Senate Health Policy committee will look at the doctors who prescribe opioids to their patients. The legislation would direct doctors to educate patients about the potential dangers of opioids and limits on how much can be prescribed.
