AG takes over investigation into abuse allegations against gymnastics coach tied to Nassar
- State Attorney General Dana Nessel announced Thursday her office is investigating complaints being leveled against one of the top gymnastics coaches in the country. John Geddert, a former U.S. Olympics gymnastics coach, is facing allegations of physical abuse from several former gymnasts.
- Reporter Alexandra Illitch has been following the allegations against John Geddert for a few years now. She joins Stateside to talk about why Nessel is launching an investigation aginst Geddert just over a week after the Eaton County prosectuor declined to charge him.

Nessel says no swift end to Catholic clergy sex abuse investigation
- Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel also gave an update into the state's ongoing investigation into sexual abuse committed by Catholic priests in Michigan dating back to 1950. Michigan Radio reporter Cheyna Roth tells us about the message Nessel had for victims, as well as for the Catholic dioceses.
Deer baiting ban could continue hunting decline in Michigan
- Deer hunting is declining in Michigan. In the late 1990s, the number of people hunting deer in the state was just under 800,000. Twenty years later, that number has dropped by a quarter. A new ban on deer baiting is likely to further that downward trend.
- Interlochen Public Radio's Dan Wanschura reports on hunters' response to the ban, and why the Michigan Department of Natural Resources says the ban is necessary for the long-term health of the state's deer herd.
With a shortage of psychiatrists, MI pediatricians take lead in mental health care for kids
Michigan, like most of the country, is in desperate need of more child and adolescent psychiatrists. While nearly one in five children in the U.S. has a diagnosable mental health disorder, Michigan had just 11 child and adolescent psychiatrists for every 100,000 children across the state in 2017.
Stateside talks to Dr. Sheila Marcus, a pediatric psychiatrist at C.S Mott Children's Hospital about what's behind the shortage, and the consequences for children who can't access appropriate mental health treatment.
Mid-Michigan native gets Oscar nod for film on burden of menstruation in rural India
- In February 2011, Sam Davis was just a few months away from graduating from Potterville High School. Just eight years later, he's getting ready to attend Sunday night's Academy Awards ceremony as a nominee.
- Davis served as director of photography on the documentary Period. End of Sentence. The film takes us to a small village in rural India where women and girls struggle to access to feminine hygiene products.
Rep. Debbie Dingell reflects on her husband's life, and his parting wishes for the country
- In the days following her husband John Dingell's death, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell was omnipresent: greeting people at the public visitation, through two funeral Masses, and laying John to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
- Now, just 13 days since her husband passed, Dingell is back to work in Washington. She speaks with Stateside about how a "Medicare for All" bill is taking shape, as well as her husband's parting wishes for the country.
