Former judge Theresa Brennan sentenced to 6 months for perjury

Former Livingston County District Judge Theresa Brennan has been sentenced to six months in jail, after pleading guilty to perjury.

During Friday's hearing, however, despite previously agreeing to a plea deal including a six month jail sentence, Brennan's attorney asked for probation.

Brennan also asked for "mercy," telling the judge she was "ignorant, foolish, and wrong."

The request for probation was denied.

Brennan was originally charged with three counts: perjury, for lying about destroying evidence in her own divorce case - obstruction of justice - and misconduct in office.  She could have faced up to 15 years in prison just for the perjury charge had she not agreed to the plea deal.
