State Rep. Rebekah Warren (D-Ann Arbor) pled guilty Tuesday to a lesser charge of misdemeanor operating while intoxicated in her drunk driving case in Oakland County.
The Democrat was originally arraigned on a misdemeanor count under what is commonly known as Michigan's "super drunk" law. That law has tougher penalties for people convicted of driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.17 or higher.
Warren's blood alcohol level tested higher than that at 0.212 after she was stopped in December by Auburn Hills police. The legal limit is 0.08.
Warren's sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 17th in 52nd District Court-Division 3 in Rochester Hills before Judge Julie Nicholson.
Warren issued the following statement Tuesday after entering her plea:
As I have previously shared, I deeply regret the decision I made in late December to drive after drinking alcohol. I thank God that I didn't harm anyone or myself that night. Following the incident, I apologized for my behaviour and decisions, and I committed that I would cooperate with the authorities, take full responsibility for my actions and take steps to ensure that this never happens again. Today's court action was me admitting responsibility, doing exactly what I said I was going to do.
