The state Legislature is re-introducing bills that would allow drunk driving convictions to be expunged from criminal records.
Similar legislation appeared on Governor Gretchen Whitmer's desk earlier this year, but she did not sign it.
House Bill 4219 and 4220 establish eligbility for the expungement of first-time driving while intoxicated convictions. The expungement would not be automatic, but anyone with a conviction could ask a judge for expungement. Convictions where injury or death were involved wouldn't be eligible.
Some lawmakers have indicated that they might re-introduce the legislation pocket-vetoed by the governor earlier this year.
The hearing for the bills is scheduled for February 16 at 9 a.m.
