Man charged in fatal shooting of Wayne State University Police Officer

Detroit police provided a photo of DeAngelo Lamar Davis, who was arraigned today

DeAngelo Lamar Davis, a 31-year-old Detroit man, allegedly shot and killed Wayne State University Police Officer Collin Rose during a traffic stop on Tuesday.

The Wayne County Prosecutors Office is charging Davis with First Degree Murder, Felony Firearm, Murder of a Police Officer, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Rose, age 29, was apparently trying to take Davis into custody during a traffic stop, when he called for backup. Davis, who was on a bike, allegedly shot Rose in the head and fled on foot.

Another officer arrived minutes later and took Rose to the hospital, where he died.

"Universally, Officer Rose was respected, admired, and one that had an excellent work ethic,” Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement.  “Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Officer Rose.  All of us at the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office grieve along with the Wayne State University community and the law enforcement community. This case strongly illustrates the dangers that police officers face every minute of every day."

Davis’ arraignment is scheduled for 11:00 am today at the 34th District Court in Romulus.
