"Fake news.” That's how a top Michigan State University official described a Nassar survivor's claims that Interim President John Engler offered her a $250 thousand payout in return for dropping her suit against the school.

The Detroit Free Press obtained emails sent by a top Engler aide following Kaylee Lorincz's appearance before the Board of Trustees, where she described the meeting she and her mother had with Engler, his aide, and a university spokesperson.

Lorincz spoke with Stateside host Cynthia Canty two days ago about that meeting. Here’s what she told us:

“You know, there were five people in that room and, you know, my mom and I know the real story. I have nothing to gain from this, you know, whether people believe me or not, I have nothing to gain and I know the real story.”

Detroit Free Press reporter David Jesse joined Stateside today to explain exactly what Carol Viventi, MSU vice president and special counsel, said over the weekend in her emails to the Board of Trustees, and how board members are responding now.
