Pinckney is one of the first communities in Michigan to vote on an ordinance prohibiting recreational marijuana businesses.
The Pinckney village council voted Monday evening on an ordinance to prohibit marijuana establishments within the village limits. The ordinance passed unanimously.
Pinckney has a population of about 2500 and it is about 1.5 square miles.
Linda Lavey is President of Pinckney's village council.
"We have a very small police department. The math wasn't there that it was going to be a positive for our business community," says Lavey.
Pinckney had already opted out of allowing medical marijuana businesses.
Michigan voters approved a ballot proposal legalizing recreational marijuana for people over 21 last week. However, the new law will allow municipalities to opt out of allowing marijuana sales in their communities.
