Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalynn Bliss announced her reelection campaign Monday.

Mayor Bliss became the first woman to be elected mayor in Grand Rapids when she won her election in 2015.

Bliss says she has a lot of issues she wants to continue to address in her next term.

“We’ve done a lot of work around affordable housing, that will continue to be a core issue. We’ve done a lot of work around improving community and police relations, that will continue to be a priority,” Bliss said.

Bliss says increasing racial equity in the city is also a priority for her going into her fourth year as mayor.

“That’s work that we’re doing internally, but also with a lot of our community partners and it takes a lot of time because it’s a complex issue,” she said.

No one has yet announced their intention to run against Bliss this November, but she expects to face some competition as the incumbent.

Bliss says she has no plans to run for state office after her term as mayor ends.

“I never say never, although I can tell you that at this moment in time, that’s not on my bucket list,” she said.
