West Michigan businessman Joel Langlois has announced he's challenging Congressman Justin Amash for Michigan's third congressional district.

The Republican businessman joins an already crowded field of candidates challenging Amash, who recently made headlines for calling for impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.

Amash formally left the Republican party to become an Independent last week.

Langlois says he has a background in manufacturing, real estate and enterainment, not politics.

"I’ve never been involved in politics before but like many Americans I’ve become disenchanted with sending career politicians to Washington and watching them turn their backs on us," Langlois said in a statement.

Langlois says he believes West Michigan needs leaders who will support President Trump and conservative ideals.

“We need a U.S. Congress and local congressman who will stand up for our conservative principles and have the President’s back. West Michigan must not replace one “Never-Trumper” with another,” he said.

He list among his priorities: supporting small businesses and replacing Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
