A whistleblower lawsuit against ousted Macomb County clerk Karen Spranger recently settled for a combined $110,000, according to multiple news outlets.
According to the Detroit Free Press, two former top deputies, Paul Kardasz and Erin Stahl, sued Spranger in 2017. The lawsuit alleged that Spranger fired both appointees after they filed ethics complaints against the clerk, claiming hostile treatment and violations of county laws and policies by Spranger. The former employees wanted their county jobs back and compensation for legal fees and damages.
The Free Press reports documents pertaining to the settlement were not publicly available, however court documents show that the case was closed "with prejudice and without costs to any party" on December 12.
Spranger only served 15 months as county clerk before a judge removed her from office in 2018 because she didn't actually live in Macomb County.
