State officials want people to fill out the Census this year. So there will be multiple town hall meetings across the state.
The 2020 Census in Michigan, which is handled by Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s office, will be working with the Attorney General’s office and the Secretary of State to hold the meetings.
Kerry Ebersole Singh, the Executive Director of the 2020 Census in Michigan, says these events are for residents to learn about the process.
“The goal is just to help raise awareness and educate the public on the importance of the 2020 Census,” Ebersole Singh says.
Ebersole Singh says Census data helps local communities receive federal funding, so cities and neighborhoods that have been underfunded are a particular interest for the Census team.
“The Census is one way we draw these dollars back into our community,” she said.
There’s a Census town hall Monday, March 2nd in Detroit at 4 p.m. at Second Ebenezer Church, and a town hall at the Macomb Intermediate School District building Tuesday, March 3rd at 4 p.m.
