The highest-ranking elected official at the University of Michigan says he too was abused by the late sports physician Robert Anderson.

That's according to an exclusive interview with the Detroit News.

Ron Weiser is the chairman of the University of Michigan's Board of Regents.

He says he was molested by Dr. Anderson while he was a student athlete during the 1960s. Weiser says he was a freshman on the school's wrestling team when he first encountered Anderson. He continued seeing him through 1967 when Weiser was a graduate student.

Weiser says he told investigators the details about the abuse, but doesn't want to disclose them publicly.

As a regent, Weiser will set policy for how the university will respond to the investigation's findings. Also, he'll oversee how the school will defend itself against lawsuits and approve any settlements.

He says he's not recusing himself, and doesn’t see this as a conflict of interest.

Anderson worked at the university from 1968 to 2003. He died in 2008. At least 100 complaints have been lodged against Anderson on a U-M hotline.
