Nearly two hundred people rallied at the capitol building in Lansing demanding all votes be counted in the presidential election.
Trump falsely declared victory in the presidential election overnight Tuesday, well before votes had been fully counted. And on Wednesday afternoon, the Trump campaign filed a lawsuit in Michigan requesting that ballot counting be stopped. Joe Biden was declared the winner of the state Wednesday evening.
The rally was organized by We Make Michigan, a coalition made up of grassroots community groups, faith leaders and labor unions.
Tina Pyzik traveled from Kalmazoo to attend the rally. She says she wants every vote to be counted and will not stand for a hijacking of the Democratic process.
“Mr. Trump feels he’s above it all and uses the government to his advantage to twist what the presidency is all about.”
Sean McBrearty is with Clean Water Action and attended the protest. He opposes Trump's premature election victory declaration.
“I think we have to rise up across the country and say you cannot change the way we do elections on the fly. We count every vote--that's the way it's always been. Elections are never certified on election night and Trump has no standing in trying to change that."
