Christina Kelly is with the Genesee County Land Bank. She says the focus now is more on building up soil on the site, and less on removing contamination.
“We’ll be doing a little bit of spot removal, but for the most part we’ll just build the cap right over the concrete. The concrete is in many places is several feet deep…six feet…ten feet…twelve feet deep,” says Kelly.
The exact timetable and cost of the ‘Chevy Commons’ project is unclear.
Kelly says it will depend on the availability of federal funds for clean up and beautification projects at the site.
