Michigan’s Attorney General is welcoming a federal judge’s decision to allow a lawsuit challenging the new health care reform law to move forward.

20 states, including Michigan, filed suit against the law, in particular one key provision that requires everyone to purchase health insurance.

"As much as we might like Congress to say everyone needs to by a Ford or GM car every year, you just can’t do that," says John Sellek, a spokesman for Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox, " It’s a slippery slope for the government to go and tell you how to spend your money."

Oral arguments in the case are scheduled for December.

Sellek expects it may be years before the federal courts finally decide the case.
