The Michigan State Police have asked the Wayne County Prosecutors office to issue an arrest warrant in the Aiyana Jones case.
A Detroit Police officer killed seven-year-old Aiyana Jones last May, as a police team raided her family’s home looking for a murder suspect.
It’s unclear whether the warrant involves that officer, or what the charge would be. Officials would only identify the person as a male “connected” with the Jones shooting.
The Wayne County Prosecutor will only confirm they received the State Police request. A spokesperson for the Prosecutor’s office says they likely won’t release more details until next week, after they’ve reviewed the whole case file.
Detroit Police handed the Jones investigation over to State Police just after the shooting. All sides have stayed quiet about it since then.
A TV crew from the A&E reality series “First 48” also filmed the incident. That video has never been released publicly.
Detroit Police Officer Joseph Weekley has been identified as Jones’s shooter.

Weekley initially claimed his gun went off while struggling with the little girl’s grandmother. The Jones family and their attorney, Geoffrey Fieger, deny that.
