The State Senate Reforms, Restructuring and Reinventing committee tomorrow will discuss a bill forcing government workers to pay between 20% to 25% of their health care costs. State Senator Mark Jansen says private sector workers already pay that much. He says government workers should do the same.
"I think there is a lot of support, but there are a lot of questions also. We’re working through that process right now.”
Jansen says Michigan could save more than $80 million if state workers picked up 20% of their health care costs. Jansen would like to amend the state constitution to force all government workers, including teachers and local government employees, to pay more for their health care. He says that could save a half billion dollars more a year.
