LISTEN: 2012 State of State address

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder.
Michigan Governor Rick Snyder.

From the Associated Press:

An upbeat Gov. Rick Snyder says Michigan now is adding jobs and living within its means and is poised for an even better year ahead if lawmakers approve new projects boosting the economy such as a bridge linking Detroit and Canada.

Snyder made the comments during his second State of the State address Wednesday at the Capitol.

The Republican governor says he wants to wrap up some unfinished business. That includes putting an exchange in place so the uninsured can shop for health insurance, raising $1.4 billion more for road and bridge repairs, outlawing elder abuse and fighting obesity.

Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer says she's disappointed the governor didn't offer any plans for improving education or college access. She says his speech offered few details for helping residents.
