Former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm starts a new role as television host tonight. Her program, The War Room with Jennifer Granholm premieres tonight at 9/8c on Current TV.
Granholm says because she was an elected official, "I can present some inside information I think that adds value to those who care about politics and policy in 2012.”
The show is named after a 1993 documentary of the same title about Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign and the organization that ran it. The campaign headquarters in the film was called the war room.
Granholm's television show will focus on the 2012 presidential campaigns. She says “it’s a progressive show about politics and policy.”
“I believe that there is enough interest in 2012 from the progressive community to have more than one set of voices on cable TV on the left, and we want to be a counter weight to the “Foxes” and others on the right,” she says.
When asked whether her administration or Governor Snyder’s should get the credit for good economic news coming out of the state, such as General Motors reclaiming its place as the world’s bestselling automaker and the unemployment rate dropping to the lowest it’s been since 2008, Graholm says it’s not about who gets the credit.
“I think he [Snyder] would say this too. A lot of the credit for Michigan’s rebound in the manufacturing sectors comes from having had the federal intervention to save the auto industry and clearly I think President Obama should get credit for that," she says.
And she adds, “bottom line Michigan is rebounding and that’s good news."
