Brewer wants IRS to investigate Durant
The Michigan Democratic Party wants the International Revenue Service to investigate Clark Durant. Durant one of the Republicans vying to run against Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow this November. Democratic Party Chairman Mark Brewer says Durant's salary - and his daughter's salary - use up 95-percent of the money in a charity meant to help children attend private religious schools in Detroit. Brewer says an outside attorney believes that's illegal. Durant says the claim is nothing but political theatre.
Michiganders may have been exposed to Hepatitis-C
Former patients at four Michigan hospitals may have been exposed to Hepatitis-C. A former medical technician was arrested this month in New Hampshire. He allegedly would inject himself with pain killers then use the tainted syringes to inject patients with saline. The man worked at hospitals in Michigan between 2005 and 2007. It's not known if he may have infected patients in Michigan. The Michigan Department of Community Health says the man worked at the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor, Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit, Harper University Hospital in Detroit and Oakwood-Annapolis Hospital in Wayne. Former patients are encouraged to contact the four hospitals to see if they should be tested for Hepatitis-C.
Chrysler earnings
Chrysler made $436 million in the second quarter, up from $181 million last year. Michelle Krebs is an analyst with Edmunds dot com. She says the news is good, but it's still not easy to be the smallest of the Detroit Three. By comparison, Ford made a billion dollar profit in the second quarter. Krebs says Chrysler doesn't have as much money as Ford or GM to invest in new technologies. Chrysler's majority owner Fiat reports its second quarter earnings Tuesday. The company is likely to report losses, as auto sales in Europe continue to fall.
