The man in the spotlight at the Republican National Convention tonight took his star power to the Michigan delegation this morning.

It’s a staple of every morning at national political conventions: the big name breakfast speaker.    And there are few bigger than New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.   The Garden State governor has a prime time slot tonight, delivering the convention’s keynote address.

Christie told Michigan’s delegates about a conversation he had with Mitt Romney about the Republican nominee’s chance of winning New Jersey in November.

“He turns to me and goes. ‘Chris is there any way I can win New Jersey?’ and I say ‘absolutely not.’ And he says ‘I didn’t think so.’…..that is not the case in Michigan,” Christie says.

Christie told the delegates they will play an important role in delivering Michigan to the Republican column in November…

“I was in North Carolina’s delegation yesterday. And I told them they are a state of consequence.  They are a state of consequence because they are going to have a chance to make a difference in the presidential election,” Christie told the delegates,  “Michigan is the same way.”

Michigan’s GOP delegates say they are looking forward to hearing Christie tonight, as well as Mitt Romney’s wife Ann who is also scheduled to speak.
