Schools across Michigan have wrapped up a week of activities designed to help students better understand America’s founding principles.
Michael Warren is an Oakland County Circuit Court Judge and co-founder of Patriot Week. He started the project in 2009 because he says people have a poor understanding of American history and government.
“I think that our country is in the process of slowly committing suicide, and if we have a country of people that are not engaged, don’t understand our foundations and don’t care about our liberty, it’s not too far-fetched to say that we can collapse as a free people.”
Warren says Patriot Week distributes study materials to schools and community organizations. The activities focus on key principles like “equality and gender” as well as important American speeches and documents.
