Detroit Mayor Dave Bing has suspended Police Chief Ralph Godbee.
“After learning of the allegations regarding Chief Ralph Godbee, I have placed him on a 30-day suspension pending a full and thorough investigation of this matter," Bing said in a statement released Tuesday.
The "allegations" come from a Detroit police officer, Angelica Robinson, who says she was sexually involved with Godbee.
According to multiple news sources, Robinson went public about her alleged affair with Godbee this past weekend over Twitter. She even tweeted a picture of herself with her Detroit Police Department-issued Glock in her mouth, apparently despondent because she believed Godbee--in San Diego for a Police Chief's conference--was there with another woman.
Fox 2 reporter Charlie LeDuff says Godbee ordered Detroit police officers to find Robinson by tracking her cell phone, then dispatched them to another city to find her.
Bing has named Assistant Chief Chester Logan as interim chief while Godbee's fate is determined.
This isn't the first time Godbee has been involved in a departmental sex scandal.
Godbee became chief in 2010 after Bing fired former chief Warren Evans for, among other things, conducting an affair with a female police officer.
It was later revealed that Godbee had been involved with the same woman.
