Last night Governor Rick Snyder delivered his State of the State address.
Today he spoke with Cyndy about the speech and his 2013 plans.
The governor began by assessing his transportation proposal.
“This is all about saving money. By actually doing this the right way, it will save us a tremendous amount of money that we’d have to pay later….This billion dollars a year, if we did that for ten years--that’s a lot of money. But if we didn’t, the bill we would have to pay to bring our roads back would be $25 billion. So it’s a huge savings by doing this…” said Snyder.
According to Snyder, one’s party affiliation shouldn’t affect discussions of the legislation.
“I hope people in both parties look at this and say, ‘Isn’t this common sense?’”
Snyder then discussed his education proposals.
“There are more kids that are eligible for a Great Start program to help with early childhood preschool. There are about 29,000 more kids that could be in that program if we had the resources. So I really want to look in the budget and see how many of those kids can we get this year…how many can we get in the future?"
Snyder said he is not currently focused on the issue of reelection.
“I’m just trying to do the best job I can. I actually don’t spend a lot of the time focusing on reelection. I believe if you step up and try to do the right thing in good faith to represent the people the best way you can, people will respect that.”
