Meijer announced today that they're planning to hire 4,400 part-time workers in Michigan (more in other states). The Grand Rapids-based company says they're hiring in response to company growth and in "in preparation for the fall and holiday selling seasons."

“While many of these opportunities are part time, these jobs can provide a gateway to a full-time career at Meijer,” said Kevin Wiederhold, vice president of human resources for retail operations. “As we continue to grow, we are frequently looking to fill our on-going part-time and full-time needs. These positions provide a great opportunity to get your foot in the door and demonstrate success within a growing company.”
And yesterday, Chrysler announced they're planning to create 298 new jobs at their Trenton North plant and at their Dundee Engine plant. Chrysler says demand for their four-cylinder Tigershark engine is sparking the growth.
