State officials must turn over the names of all candidates considered for Detroit’s emergency manager job.
A Wayne County Circuit judge court ordered that information be made public Tuesday.
Union activist Robert Davis asked for documents related to Detroit’s emergency manager search under the Freedom of Information Act. Davis contends the state process that selected emergency manager Kevyn Orr violated Michigan’s Open Meetings Act.
Davis received some documents, but the names of potential candidates and other identifying information were blacked out.
Judge Maria Oxholm ruled that some internal state communications are protected by executive privilege.
But Oxholm also ordered the state to produce the names and resumes of candidates that Governor Snyder’s office considered for the emergency manager.
Oxholm ordered those documents released within 48 hours, but she also granted a stay while the state plans an appeal.
