Foundations and individuals have stepped up to pledge big dollars to the struggling city of Detroit, and now Gov. Rick Synder is floating a plan to send Detroit $350 million over 20 years.
The Detroit Free Press named an anonymous source when reporting the plan this morning.
Michigan Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville (R-Monroe) confirmed today that Snyder has floated the plan.
The source for the Detroit Free Press said this was done in response to the money private foundations are pledging.
The governor would like the state to match the $330 million that has been pledged by private foundations under a deal brokered by Chief U.S. District Judge Gerald Rosen. “It’s basically match,” said a source in the Legislature who attended the talks. “The state would match the foundations.” “If the governor can sell this to the rest of the state, that’s great. Our biggest worry is it has to be bipartisan, because this is an election year.”
