One hundred years ago, three women took a cross-country road trip from San Francisco to Washington DC to collect half a million signatures demanding passage of a Constitutional Amendment giving women the right to vote.
Maine-based author Anne Gass is recreating that historic trip and blogging about it along the way.
“This trip is kind of an interesting portal into the women’s suffrage history and I also thought it would be fun to kind of connect the dots forward to the kinds of actions and activities women have undertaken since then to gain additional rights, whether it’s the right to serve on a jury, or property right, or abortion rights or any of those that women have had to work equally hard on to get and to keep over the years," she says.
Gass will conclude her road trip in Washington, DC on November 15.
