Genesee County has set aside $1 million to demolish blighted tax-foreclosed properties in the out-county area.
The city of Flint, which is the county seat, has seen much of the focus of the area's anti-blight efforts in recent years.
The Genesee County Land Bank, however, said Tuesday that townships and other cities will be able to request that buildings be demolished.
County Treasurer Deb Cherry says in a statement that demolition "will go a long way to help increase public safety, stabilize property values and enhance economic development opportunities."
Records show that more than 230 residential and commercial tax-foreclosed properties held by the county treasurer or the land bank in out-county communities are blighted.
The treasurer's office is hoping that local matching funds will boost the efforts.
