A new poll from The Detroit News and WDIV-TV gives us a look at how Michigan voters are feeling one week into general election campaign season.
Chad Livengood of The Detroit News joined us today to talk about the findings.
Here's how 600 likely general election voters said they would vote come November:
- 41.0% Hillary Clinton (Democrat)
- 31.6% Donald Trump (Republican)
- 7.5% Gary Johnson (Libertarian)
- 3.4% Jill Stein (Green)
14.2% of those surveyed reported being undecided, and another 1.3% responded, "Other."
Livengood told us that Trump is trailing Clinton by 21 points among women, and, "most surprisingly, he is trailing Hillary Clinton in West Michigan."
"Hillary Clinton leads by five points in West Michigan, six points in Southwest Michigan," he said. He reminded us that Trump didn't do so well in these areas during the primaries.
The poll also found that Governor Snyder's approval rating is at an all-time low.
"His approval rating has dipped below 40%," Livengood said. "54% of likely voters disapprove of the governor's job performance."
"It's probably a good thing that he's term limited, because it'll be very hard for him to run for re-election at this point," he said.
