The increasingly crowded field of candidates running for Michigan governor in 2018 may grow by one more later today.
Then again, it may not.
Lt. Gov. Brian Calley has long been seen as a potential candidate to succeed his boss, Gov. Rick Snyder, who’s time in the governor’s office is winding down because of term limits.
A month ago, when Calley started running a series of online videos touting his experience, political observers in Lansing saw it as the beginning of a gubernatorial campaign.
Originally, many speculated that a “major announcement” touted in the online campaign on May 30th would be the official launch of Calley’s official run for governor.
Many insiders now expect Calley will launch a campaign, not to give himself a new full time job, but instead to change Michigan’s Constitution to turn the state’s legislature into a part-time lawmaking body.
