It’s Just Politics: Sec of State responds to Trump election commission, Stabenow’s newest challenger

In a statement on Facebook, Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson said she would comply with some, but not all, of the federal government's requests.

July 4 is coming up, but it’s not here quite yet. As the grills are fired up and the fireworks prepped, the It’s Just Politics team of Zoe Clark and Rick Pluta join Stateside to catch up on what’s happening in Michigan politics this holiday week.

The Republican Party’s bid to unseat Sen. Debbie Stabenow in 2018 is beginning to take shape. Last week, former Michigan Supreme Court Justice Robert Young officially added his name to the list of GOP candidates. But early blunders may already have harmed his chances.

Polls show increasing polarization among Americans nationwide. Michigan reflects that trend too, with mistrust of elected officials and other institutions on the rise. What will it take to halt this alarming pattern?
