Michigan Congresswoman Debbie Dingell is speaking out about the allegations of sexual harassment against fellow Democratic Rep. John Conyers.

Conyers denies claims of inappropriate behavior, but has acknowledged he settled a sexual harassment complaint using his House office fund in 2015.

Dingell told Morning Edition Wednesday that it "deeply bothers" her that public money was used for a settlement.

"I have been one of the loudest and the clearest. That we must change these rules, we must be transparent, and no public money should ever be used to pay off somebody for inappropriate behavior," she said.

The House Ethics Committee announced Tuesday it is formally investigating allegations that Conyers may have engaged in sexual harassment of members of his staff.

"We simply cannot tolerate this kind of sexual harassment – if it’s true – in any way," Dingell said.
