The Michigan State University campus is preparing for Monday’s event featuring white supremacist Richard Spencer.
Hundreds of people are expected to attend Monday’s speech at the MSU Pavilion.
The speech comes during the university’s spring break. But many people are expected to take part in a demonstration a short distance from the event.
Demonstration organizer Duncan, who declined to give his last name, says they intend to make their voices heard in East Lansing Monday and anywhere else in Michigan where Spencer may speak in the future.
“We’re going to make them feel unwelcome and we’re going make their events impossible to have,” says Duncan.
MSU officials are encouraging people in East Lansing to ignore Spencer’s speech, and instead attend other inclusive events in town.
The MSU police are working with the Michigan State Police and East Lansing Police Department to prevent any violent conflicts between Spencer’s supporters and their critics.
