This week, a Michigan House inquiry about the handling of complaints over convicted sex offender and former MSU sports doctor Larry Nassar completed its work. The information was turned over to the Attorney General’s office. Some of that information was released in a letter to House speaker Tom Leonard.
State Representative Kim LaSata was part of the bipartisan effort to determine if MSU failed in protecting students, and chairs the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education.
LaSata joined Stateside to discuss what lawmakers learned from the inquiry, where Michigan State University officials went wrong, how the legislature hopes to prevent future Larry Nassars, and how lawmakers can help change the culture of sexual abuse at universities.
