Former President Barack Obama was in Detroit on Friday to ramp up enthusiasm for Democratic candidates among voters ahead of the November midterms. Multiple Democratic candidates, including gubernatorial candidate Gretchen Whitmer, joined Obama.
Obama had a message for Michigan.
“Don’t boo. Vote,” he said.
He called on the crowd repeatedly to remember what Republicans have done in the past, not focus on what they’re saying now that they’re up for election.
“What we have not seen before, in our public life, is politicians just blatantly, repeatedly, baldly, shamelessly, lying,” Obama said.
Obama says Republicans are lying when they say they want to keep pre-existing conditions for health care insurance.
Some Republican candidates have said that they have always been in support of insurance for pre-existing conditions, even when they opposed the Affordable Care Act.
Vice President Mike Pence will be in Michigan on Monday to try to energize Republican voters for candidates like Attorney General Bill Schuette – the Republican candidate running for governor.
