Protesters flooded the rotunda of the Michigan Capitol Wednesday to oppose actions taken by the Legislature during this year’s lame duck session. Protesters gathered for a second week after lawmakers passed legislation modifying measures such as minimum wage and earned sick time.
Shoniqua Kemp is an organizer from Detroit with Good Jobs Now. She says she feels like her vote has been taken from her.
“l want them to disregard my voice to my face," says Kemp. "I want them to be able to say to me that I don’t matter.”
Kemp says she hopes Governor Rick Snyder will veto the bills that have been passed. Many protesters view lawmakers' actions as grabbing the power from newly-elected Democrats before they take office in January.
