Media billionaire Michael Bloomberg formally launches the Michigan phase of his presidential campaign Saturday.
The former New York City mayor is opening his Michigan campaign headquarters near Eastern Market.
Bloomberg launched his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination less than a month ago. Many of the other candidates have been actively running for the party’s nomination for a year.
But Bloomberg is looking to level the playing field by spending $100 million of his own money on advertising.
Recent national polls show Bloomberg running fifth in the Democratic presidential field.
Michigan’s presidential primary is March 10.
Bloomberg’s philanthropy and activism have touched several Michigan communities in recent years.
