Governor Gretchen Whitmer says she will mention impeachment Tuesday night when she delivers the Democratic response to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address.

But Whitmer says most of her 10-minute rebuttal will focus on issues such as healthcare, education, and the economy.

“This is really about ensuring the American people understand what Democrats stand for because I believe that American people deserve better, and they deserve action,” she said.

Watch live coverage of the State of the Union address here.

The President won Michigan by the smallest of margins in 2016. It’s widely expected that Republicans and Democrats will battle to win voters in Michigan and other industrial states in the Midwest.

“When a tweet can devastate a farmers’ prospects because of international policy being decided on Twitter, that’s a scary place to be for hard-working farmers across our country," she said. "Same goes for automakers.”

In the video player below, watch her remarks live and follow a live annotation of her remarks, with fact checks and analysis from NPR reporters.

The State of the Union is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, with the Democratic response coming immediately after. Having trouble viewing the feed? Please try refreshing the page.
