Tuesday’s election is going to be unique in Michigan history.
As part of the effort to reduce the spread of the novel coronavirus, there will be no polling locations open for in-person voting on Election Day.
Instead, the May 5 election will be mainly handled with “mail-in” voting.
County clerks mailed ballots to anyone eligible to vote in the limited number of elections taking place Tuesday. Clerks are required to open at least one voting location on Election Day for same day registration and filing absent voter ballots.
The May election primarily features school ballot measures.
Jennifer Smith is the Director of Government Relations for the Michigan Association of School Boards. She says some districts with concerns pulled their questions from the May ballot. But she says not all districts with ballot questions had the ability or desire to wait until August.
