A spokeswoman for Governor Gretchen Whitmer says President Donald Trump is “totally misinformed” when he claims state officials are preventing him from holding campaign rallies in the state.

The president says he wants to hold a big rally in Michigan, but it’s not being allowed.

“I called Michigan. I want to have a big rally in Michigan. You know we’re not allowed to have a rally in Michigan?” President Trump told host Chris Wallace during an appearance on Fox News Sunday.

But Whitmer spokeswoman Tiffany Brown says “nobody in the administration has heard from President Trump's team.”

Gov. Whitmer has expressed concerns about the president holding campaign rallies in Michigan while the state is grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The president also told Fox News that Democratic governors were using the COVID-19 pandemic as an excuse to not allow him to hold rallies.

“If everything was gone 100%, they still wouldn’t allow it. They are not allowing me to do it,” Trump claimed.

As of Sunday, Michigan has recorded 73,663 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 6,119 deaths.
