One of Michigan’s largest cities currently does not have a contract with a business to pick up its garbage.
Flint’s garbage pickup contract expired on June 30.
Wednesday, the Flint City Council failed to approve a 90-day extension to the city’s contract with Republic Services. Instead, the council approved a 30-day contract, which is not what Republic wanted.
Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley spent Thursday trying to secure an agreement that will allow the city’s garbage to be picked up and hauled away.
A Republic spokesman says the company is “working in good faith with the Mayor and city staff” to resolve the issue.
Meanwhile, the company says “residents should know that nothing will change with respect to their regular waste collection services in the immediate future.”
