With the London games behind us, cities across the country are welcoming back their hometown Olympians. This week, Canton, Michigan welcomed home swimmer Allison Schmitt.

At 22, Schmitt won three gold medals, one silver medal, and one bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.  She won gold in the women's 200m freestyle with an Olympic record time.

“I’ve been training for it and I knew I was ready for it, and I knew I had strong legs to finish, so I just wanted to swim out the race and swim a smart race. And it definitely helped out, and I was very happy with the outcome,” said Schmitt.

She tells Michigan Radio's Jennifer White she's very happy to be home and is taking it easy. Schmitt says she’ll be training to make it to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

“In a few day’s I’m going back to school at University of Georgia. And then my plan is to swim for four more years, and to compete in Rio," she said.

Schmitt won one bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
