You may see fewer Confederate flags at next month’s NASCAR race at Michigan International Speedway.
A spokesman for the race track in Brooklyn says they want events at the track to be “the most fan-friendly and welcoming environments”.
To that end, NASCAR fans will be encouraged to exchange the Stars and Bars for a new American or Canadian flag.
The exchanges are being offered at NASCAR tracks around the country starting with this weekend’s race in Daytona, Florida.
“This is an opportunity for NASCAR Nation to demonstrate its sense of mutual respect and acceptance for all who attend our events while collectively sharing the tremendous experience of NASCAR racing,” according to a written statement from NASCAR.
NASCAR is not banning the Confederate flag at its events.
