Michigan is filled with winter enthusiasts, including people who ice fish.
Despite being a winter enthusiast himself, Stateside host Lester Graham has never sat out on the ice to catch fish. Evidently, he’s not alone.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is offering ice fishing classes with expert anglers like Norm Smith.
Smith joined Stateside today to explain what ice fishing involves, how to stay safe on the ice, and why he finds the sport fascinating.
He also offered some advice.
“Don’t sit in one hole,” he said. “You go to the fish. Don’t let the fish come to you.”
Listen above to hear the conversation.
Smith is one of the fishing experts teaching ice fishing at the Carl T. Johnson Hunt and Fish Center in Cadillac this Saturday, Jan. 27 and again on Feb. 24. Click here for more information.
