Michigan Radio’s Believed podcast has been nominated for a Webby Award in the “Podcast: Best Mini Series” category. Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), is the leading international awards organization honoring excellence on the internet.
The IADAS will select the winner of the Webby Award. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, and honored at a ceremony on Monday, May 13, 2019 in New York City.
In addition, as a nominee, Believed is eligible to win a Webby People’s Voice Award. The winner of this award is voted online by fans across the globe. From now until April 18th, the public can cast their votes for Believed at vote.webbyawards.com.
The Believed podcast series from Michigan Radio and NPR provided an intimate look at how a team of female survivors, detectives, and prosecutors won justice in the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal. It was developed from the over two years of coverage of the case completed by Michigan Radio reporters. The Believed series was an exploration of the national scandal through the eyes of the survivors and their families.
“Nominees like Believed are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet,” said Claire Graves, Executive Director of The Webby Awards. “It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the 13,000 entries we received this year.”
The Webby Awards recognize the most compelling work in the digital landscape including Websites, Video, Advertising, Media & PR, Apps, Mobile, and Voice, Social, Podcasts, and Games. Established in 1996, this year’s Webby Awards received entries from all 50 states and 70 countries worldwide.
