In August of 2019, Michigan Radio began an ongoing series investigating what the effects of climate change would be on the future of Michigan. We began the series with a week of coverage kicked off by Stateside host Cynthia Canty interviewing reporter Tracy Samilton about what climate change will mean for Michigan.
During the week that followed, we had daily features in our news magazine programs, interviews on our daily news program Stateside, and web only stories that looked at numerous climate change issues in relation to Michigan. A handful of those are included in the audio files as examples.
As the year progressed we continued looking at how climate change will affect Michigan, including features about how warmer weather will increase mosquito borne diseases, how farmers are changing tilling processes to address the issue and how it’s being taught in the classroom.
